New York, New York – August 1, 2024 – Bidsquare set new single auction record sales with over $3.7 million from the Coeur d’Alene Art Auction, the premier event in the Western and American Art market. Held on July 27, the auction achieved a remarkable $17.2 million in sales, with Bidsquare exclusively powering online bidding that accounted for $3.65 million, or 33% of sold lots.
The event featured top-tier works from renowned artists such as William R. Leigh, Frederic Remington, and Charles M. Russell and is recognized as the largest single-auction event in the Western and American Art field.
Highlighted by the sale of Philip R. Goodwin’s “Dangerous Sport” for $786,500, Bidsquare’s platform continued its impressive year-over-year growth. This year’s total sales surpassed the company’s previous record, also set with Coeur d’Alene in 2023, by over $1MM, fueled in part by a 27% increase in registered bidders and a 61% increase in total bids placed.
Demonstrating the growing online demand for fine art auctions, the highest selling works were results of bidding on Bidsquare.com. All top five lots far exceeded the company’s historicals and include:
Philip R. Goodwin’s “Dangerous Sport” – $786,500
William R. Leigh’s “Embarrassed (Range Pony in Town)” – $665,500
Charles M. Russell (1864–1926) – “The Ambush” – $605,000
Howard Terpning’s “Army Mules No More” – $514,250
Frederic Remington’s “The Rattlesnake, #21” – $484,400
“We’re thrilled to see Coeur d’Alene’s success with their 2024 event and are grateful for their partnership as the exclusive online platform” says Allis Ghim, Bidsquare CEO. “The incredibly impressive collection of Western Art allowed Bidsquare.com to set new record sales and only reinforces our commitment to helping auction houses reach their own milestones.”
Mike Overby of Coeur d’Alene Art Auction says “Once again, Bidsquare exceeded our expectations with their exemplary service. Our clients tell us again and again how much they enjoy the Bidsquare platform and its user-friendly interface.”
The Coeur d’Alene Art Auction partnership reflects Bidsquare’s ability to complement live events in a meaningful way. The marketplace accounted for one-third of total sales, highlighting how online reach can drive significant bidding activity and contribute to an auction’s success.
